dessert, dinner, money

after a rich dinner last night i was walking and found a dollar in the street. i went a little further and found another.
i was very excited because i had just been counting in my mind the days until my next ssi check and planning to bring my change to the supermarket coin machine…. anyway, then i found a folded five and two more dollars… then amazing as it may seem a ten. then a few more singles.

i looked around to see who was playing a game with me…. then i was looking up to heaven and said, "wow, …

ingenious attitude., survival, trust

how will we survive if we are not aggressive.

it has to do with trust.

besides, we have nothing to lose but our lives. and when that's over, it's over.
so we proceed trusting our common sense which saves us from all kinds of potential disasters.

then it becomes a matter of responsibility.

when my father was dying i asked him what he most regretted about his life.

he said, " that i can't pass on what i know."
i didn't argue… just absorbed what he said.

i could have said, "but how about us? my brother and i? don't you think you have inculcated the results of all of your pondering in us?" …

more food. more food for thought.

the meaning of life is for me, encapsulated in a detail of the life of milarepa.

after seven years in a cave living on nettle soup, his earthenware bowl broke. but within the bowl was the green accumulation of residue formed by the years of use. the nettles had formed a bowl. and that bowl was not broken in the fall.

Art is born of leisure. It is ridiculous to think that we are born to work.

We may have been created to do. Yes. But nothing in the universal laws forces us as to how we will work.

This is the greatest misunderstanding in present times.

To whit: you are nothing if you are not driving your mind and body to produce more dollars to survive with.

Most people today work for a living. Working to live and living to work. It’s the same old story, just different labels. We are slaves. The only recourse in our grasp is to be a conscious slave.

Seneca, a great philosopher, was a slave, and he said that he was freer than any senator or patrician he knew. I can only extrapolate that he had serenity.

The best choice available is to do what I love and not consider any gain. Somehow I will be compensated, so I don’t worry.

Living is the neglected art.

Sure… some things need to be done so just do them… balance that checkbook. Instead of shilly shallying in the negative realms of denial, take arms against a sea of troubles, and by opposing, end them. from Shakespeare, (the dilemma of hamlet). Then afterward reward yourself with the real pleasures of life.

like a warm bath with sounds and incense…. candles.

the right attitude to eating is also an ally. fast food doesn't feed our need for good impressions.
my solution is to make the time to eat fresh presentable food. eat like a king in the morning, a prince in the afternoon and a pauper at night. i quote adelle davis…. "let's eat right to keep fit"

and live long and prosper. that is my wish for all the world.

just because it's a pretty picture…. this was my lunch. i am laughing to think that you will say… scott has gone mad. he keeps on posting about food. it is one of the few real pleasures in life. just don't overeat. i can have anything i desire as long as i exercise some self-control.

new slideshow of my work….

embarassed, fed up with the 'fed', war not good

Common sense 2007

How can we be effective as citizens when we have no idea of what our government’s motives are? We are pulled to the left and then to the right. We are lied to. We scare easily.
The spin-doctors propagate a psuedo Christian doctrine similar to that that led to the disasters of the crusades. It is always apollonian ideals that dedicate the treasury to war instead of the common weal. They hope to inspire a patriotic god fearing majority to back their agenda.

Maybe their agenda will, in the final analysis be of benefit to the future of the United States of America. But why can’t we be let in on the secret?
Then the enemy would know the secret plan for world domination. This is exactly what causes the downfall of great nations.

Like the cartoon, “pinky and the brain”…”what’s the plan for today?” “Same as always; take over the world.” At least he was honest.

George Washington, though not brilliant they say, could see ahead. He had a generalized fear of meddling in foreign affairs. But the first and second world wars had to be fought; and that thrust the U.S. into further involvement overseas. Then when the opportunists got a whiff of the money to be skimmed due to the largesse and graft of government disbursements the stage was set, the plot was obvious. Many a million greenback dollar gatherings were engineered over a two-martini lunch.

Another general, Dwight d. Eisenhower, also a president, warned against American power possessors in the military-industrial complex pulling strings to get the war machine going again. The powerful lobby after two world wars must have realized that peace would put them out of business. There’s no money to be had in armaments unless there is a threat from ‘the enemy’.

I’m not the only one who is confused. Regardless of polls, I suspect that the majority of the people, and I mean all the people, don’t see the sense of chasing our tails in the middle east; or anywhere else for that matter. We are mostly embarrassed to be Americans now. We are a practical people and would like to see our taxes dedicated to schools and hospitals, repairing the infrastructure, alleviating suffering here at home, and the sick, the poor, the disenfranchised and the elderly under pressure to survive need a stable minimum to keep body and soul together. and that is just not happening. let's not talk about how broke the treasury is.

destiny, food, lafoodworks.com, working

for two days this week i was a gardener-maintainer-landscape artist.

yesterday, i joined a fascinating team of catering chefs.

inspired by all this culinary splendor, today, i opened "le bonne cuisine" and hunted for a recipe for beef brains or 'les cervelle du buerre noir'

mmmmm… it was yummy.

i can't use any names because everyone is so secretive around here. but i can plug lafoodworks.com
they can hardly object to free advertising.

i arrived five minutes late in west hollywood yesterday. that was because i have this habit of guessing wrong when i should turn either right or left. then it takes a while to correct the mistake.
i fell in love with the site of lafoodworks from the start. it had a nice entrance, then a patio with outdoor tables made with ceramic tiles. everything was sunny and green.

but inside was the epitome of culinary ambiance…. the light, the equipment, the cleanliness and order were impressive.

after meeting a few of the chefs for this occassion (a dinner for 80 people) i was sent to the market for some supplies. it was an adventure and all went well except that i was given $100 cash and the bill turned out to be $216. even though i had my cellphone, i of course, as is my idiotic propensity, chose to handle it myself. so i floated a check on a bank balance already in 'overdraft'.
but i was determined to not come back without the list i was given being fulfilled to the last detail.

the crab for the crabcakes was seven eight ounce cold containers in a new packaging (not cans). i was told to get cans. they didn't have cans. anyway these 'cans' are not really what we call cans but round plastic coated aluminum containers with hermetically sealed lids. that's the way you get it in the ice near the fresh fish counter.

so i was sent back to return the expensive crab meat and continue on to 'smart and final' to find the other form of crab meat.

the first thing the manager said to me looking at my seven containers of crab was "but these are no good… they're warm." i showed her the time on the receipt and she relented, but wouldn't let me buy back my check. instead she punched in some data which i provided and handed me a sparkling new creditcard explaining that the card represented a 'store credit' for the $118 worth of returned crab.

i accepted it, somewhat tickled at modern life. but my boss was not at all pleased and it cost me being eliminated from the staff for the main event… the party on sunday night.

no problem. "the way of the flow of the river of life is written in the sands."

so i climbed the hill again today to go collect my measly pay for saturday, they were gone to the 'site' as we say. i called my connection and instead of telling me where he was, put me off until monday morning at 9:00 a.m. at his house. now he's supposed to be a good friend of seven years standing. if he had paid me at the end of the day on saturday, knowing that i would be dropped from the team for the final presentation/celebration, he would have saved me two trips from the valley to west hollywood. my cost for going back and forth not to mention the agony of the time wasted and the sweatbox of my jeep in 90 degree weather in los angeles traffic two additional days totally wipes out any profit from the enterprise for me. i put twenty dollars into an empty gas tank and it's empty again.

so, i went shopping. that, for me is groceries.

i know it's a strange story. but what am i blogging for except to entertain my friends?
have some brains… on me. who seems to be in short supply of them lately.

debate, prostitution: pros and cons

since i just spent almost five hours commenting on the discussion i was invited to join by it's author kavishwar concerning the question of prostitution… i publish my comment here on my page to elicit additional arguments from the community.

Whether prostitution be made legal ? This question was asked to the students of psychology , in one of the college in Mumbai.

but i suggest you do as i did and try to answer the question before reading all of the comments.

living large

don't you just love food?
always shop when you are really hungry.

good fresh food is the fuel which powers the best life.

a little poem and a very personal peek into my life.

i guess because i am feeling a little lonely
but don't want anyone to think that i am suffering.
still overjoyed by having my own place….
i know my friends in opera will get a kick out of this post…
so exuberant. perrier does that to me.

try this sometime… it's a gourmet style of cooking eggs which is really fast and easy.
a few shards of bacon, an english muffin and a dram or two of marsala. then bake it in the oven for ten minutes at 450 degrees farenheit. but keep an eye on it because you don't want the yolks to get hard…. it's a nice birthday breakfast to present your significant other with. oh…. and don't forget to put a sliver of real butter under each half of the muffin. salt and pepper.

and todays poem…
yes, we are the people of today
hell bent for leather
devil may care
we treasure freedom
as much as clean air

our epitaph shall read
bon vivant!
viva joie du vivre!
unquenchable
irrepressible
dynamic… generous

and the only reverence we really feel
deep in our gut
is for the miracle
of life

we are so bold
and courageous
as to 'die now'
to the mundane world of titilation
and live in a new world
of our choosing

go out and gently
ride a horse.

happy birthday my son

dedicated., jonathan, my oldest

how many can say they love their sons and daughters purely.
how many can say their sons and daughters love them.
my heart is full with gratitude for my children.

so this poem, on jon's birthday, is dedicated to my gratitude that he turned out to be so fine.

'a birthday poem for my eldest son'

whenever i, in deserate straights
and in a dither, decry my fate
remembering my true self
i seek solitude
and in the utmost quiet
i find a new path… untrodden.

then, my vision of the future
for me and
for others
is renewed
until forgetful of what is above
i fall again
to be the prey of
mankind's foibles over and over again
until a thousand times
i succumb to desire
or give myself blindly to distractions
i come back again
a homing pidgeon
to the truth, the lack, the helpless true state
of being.
and,
undaunted by these obstacles
like time and forgetfulness,
simply persevering with a clear aim…

to awaken in the end to the best use of my time
my confidence is restored… nay, not restored but
strengthened. and with that,
no need of faith, or hope, or false certitude
no ritual or dogma will be my crutch
for going on.

i will continue on my own recognizance.
and more and more remember why i am here.
why am i here? why are we here?
don't ask. just do.
the answer is in the doing.

I_ArtMan august 3rd. 2007
jonathan's birthday
jonathan means a 'gift of god', that's my oldest son.

just as in indian mythology 'brahmadatta' meant 'heaven sent' …
