cooking, gyoza, kool aid house, lasagna, potstickers, salad, yogurt
well, i made this meat stuffing for gyoza (potstickers) and i had so much left over i decided to make a lasagna.
i was going to post about the lean years in manhattan but the internet and cooking stole the whole day away. now i am hungry and tired. well, maybe tomorrow. i did add a segment, sort of a preface to 'just visiting' the hegira from winter park, fl., to santa barbara. (just about a page at the beginning is new.)
http://my.opera.com/I_ArtMan/blog/2009/06/09/just-visiting
anyway, feast your eyes on this lasagna. if you're within driving distance there's enough for everyone. :chef:
you don't need a picture of after they are cooked do you?
this is so easy. the sheets of pastry don't need to be boiled first. then you layer sauce pastry, cheese mix (two eggs, ricotta, grated mozzarella and Parmesan) this is a small pan so i didn't follow any recipe… just don't fill it too high or it will boil over. just in case i backed it up with my pizza cooker.
goes with a salad. it's a sunday dinner and i fasted all day, so shuddup about the fat and calories. :chef:
i also made yogurt for the first time. as with many first times, it was a dismal failure. i wonder what i did wrong?
well, i'm not going to throw it away. i can use it on cereal and milk shakes.
oh… by the way. i'm learning russian. it is harder than gyoza.
I so enjoy Italian food. That lasagna looks really good, too. Hope you really enjoyed your meal, Scott!
OH! I make yogurt quite often. It always turns out. Everything has to be sterilized really well otherwise the other bacterium will prevent the yogurt culture from growing. I even use skim milk and it always gets nice and thick.
Yes, definitely. Honey is a natural antibiotic. Makes sense.
well, san, i think i was misled by a video where this lady said she always put honey in, but now that i think about it honey is an antiseptic not friendly to cultures… try again tomorrow. :happy:yes, star, me too. but it's like beef; only once in a while… too too rich. it was delicious though. :chef:
Loves food / loves life / Energy / Life  Love RuneSB
Hi Scott," the Internet and cooking stole the whole day away. now i am hungry and tired. well, maybe tomorrow. " – That happens to me a lot too! You and your delicious meal also made me hungry, looks scrumptious, but I can't walk over on "The Pond" to partake, not yet anyways. I hope you are enjoying your Summer Scott, and stay healthy, happy and safe my friend.Originally posted by RuneSB:

san, if it works today without the honey, i learned something. 💡
hey kent, wish you could. but thanks for dropping in out of the cybersky.
*I_ArtMan seconds rune's affirmation.
I love visiting this is the blog that satisfies, the mind, the eye, the heart…. if only satisfied the stomach for real… :lol:thanks meli  when you have your next meal, have another piece for me

(even that was rich. blue cheese has the most fat of any cheese. once again, don't use so much.)
i know my meli is going to say "what the hell is that painting doing there, you crazy man? :idea:if you must know… i just put it there to stop the flying pieces when i chop onions… :headbang: :chef:
meli  take that painting away from there! 😆 put a tray standing instead…:p when I saw the kitchen towel and the msg on it,I was smiling, now I see art… what? no flowers today ? let me add some here :
This is not fair. I have a stomac ache 😥
sorry to hear that nic, what have you been doing, skindiving or something? and eating jelly fish? 🙂
meli  those are lovely, thanks. asters? nice color. :happy:i always have fresh flowers in the kitchen and bathroom.
never tried yogurt, will have to one day… this feast looks delicious! wish I had been within driving distance. I trust you really enjoyed leftovers, too.
oh boy, that lasagna looks awesome!
six day supply, if i ate it in a row. (unless i have guests). trouble is, i get bored with left-overs. unless i freeze half of it, it gets shoved into the back of the frige where it is forgotten until it gets a very lovely blue-green garden growing on it. 😆
nope, Scottgot a small area with inflamation. Doc gave me something today. Feeling much better now

it could have been brown from the gulf…..:yuck:
You are such a foodie!!!!!!!!!!! :chef:
donut, he's just practicing for his next visit to portugal waters. 🙂 nic knows better than to go to the gulf right now.you're lucky you're on the east coast. :up:naomi, yep. i am. blame my mother. she spoiled me. 😎 she gave me a gourmet tongue with a gourmand appetite.
yep. things get lost in time on those low shelves. of course, i try to keep track of things in there and eat them before they spoil. i hate to throw away food. but i am curing myself of that. the freezer is a good solution except then it gets cluttered with things i'm not sure what they are… i think i will just stop saving leftovers altogether. 💡 by the third night, it leaves me cold… like tonight i couldn't eat any more lasagna. maybe tomorrow, i'll have another piece and then the garden should start growing… naaa just kidding. but i will throw the rest out. :chef: food should be eaten as fresh as possible.

I got mine from my bro…nice to freeze some of those delic leftovers, nice to keep the garden outside 😉 we've been known to grow a few gardens of our own in our fridge…
freezer is good! our big one broke down, am so disappointed- it is still tenant here, which is also annoying, haha. looks like the transmission is on its way out, too- better start looking for my skateboard… don't be surprised if I show up for dinner sometime 😀 cross-country trek is sounding appealing.
 NO!. That´s not an option!
😆 nic.nic likes the underwater world; symbolic of the depths of the unconscious.@jill,well, you should be walking downhill anyway. too bad about the freezer. advertise in the penny saver and some scrap dealer will pick it up for free.i would be charmed if you came to dinner. of course, i would make something very special.
man-o-wars are like my thoughts. Floating around without any set destination :jester:
I think cooking + art go together well. Talent in both areas stems from creativity and intuition. 🙂
good point naomi, it's just a way of functioning. when i am engrossed in painting, i never think about food and just graze on whatever is easy.
yes. eating is one of the few 'real' pleasures. :chef:and unless we're rich and can eat out all the time, we must do the cooking ourselves. there's nothing worse than eating your own cooking if it's not palatable. then it becomes a duty. 🙂
I guess cooking has become another creative outlet for me (well not to mention, I love eating good food!). It's probably the same for you, right?

It's MUCH better to cook at home than eat out. There's no question about the ingredients being used and since you are cooking for yourself and people you love, the food is usually better. 😀
jill, yep. :chef: :knight:
naomi, true, but you have to devote some time to it. i think that's why i can't plan meals and execute them when i am painting. it's either/or. 😎
one more question for you now, when you prepare your feasts, is it because of a craving, something you've wanted to make for a time, seasonal offerings-… or all?
the answer to that is to practice an active attention to what is real. that may seem indirect but it's a great field of self-study… resistance versus initiative. visionary functions. knowing myself through sensation. the emotional in-touch-ness with the needs and desires of the body are all real events as opposed to dreaming. you put yourself to work, for yourself. 💡 it's a positive life style.see new album (lifestyle).http://my.opera.com/I_ArtMan/albums/show.dml?id=4303012btw the yogurt worked the second time. it could have been the honey. this time i followed san's instructions. http://my.opera.com/sanshan/blog/bacteria
Well the lasagna looks great. But even better — I'll take about 3 of those pot-stickers, with that spicy red sauce they serve with them.
Looking at those pictures just made me hungry! 😀 I love Italian food!
So, what time's dinner?
Glad it worked.

Post often, Scott, post often!!
Reading this wonderful blog is dangerous… to my belly. The food is exquisite, Scott.
i sometimes think my raison d' etre is all about appetizing. probably the fault of my training in advertising. there's no doubt that i have a hungry eye. well, you'll just have to be strong, moon baby, and i will try to control myself and not post too often on the topic of food. 😎

what book were you reading? 🙂 Russian dictionary? 😉
oh…that lasagna looks so delicious! I better do not look anymore on that picture and forget your recipe now, because it is late afternoon and I must not cook and eat something 🙄 😆 I loved those words "Live well, Laugh often, Love much" a good slogan for a happy life :)p.s. you learn Russian? 🙂 It's my native language, so if you will need some help-I am your disposal
yes. i am learning russian. but it's very hard. just can't get used to the letters… but i am making progress.
oh, I now that Russian is hard to learn 🙂 Even if I do not speak and write perfectly in English I feel that it is much more easier than Russian, we have too many words, rules and letters :)Btw, I would love to see your progress, I mean handwriting in Russian! 🙂
я практика написания алфавита.no handwiting compositions yet. i am still getting familiar with the sounds… that is knowing the sound when i see the letter. gotta get that down first.
I think that's right to start with sounds. I've learned Spanish first that way. 🙄 It was a lot of fun and now I can say some phrases as a real Spanish girl 😆
yes. that's why it's easier to learn in the country where the language is spoken. i studied french for years, in high school and in college and privately. but i learned spanish making three trips to mexico and talking to puerto ricans at work in new york. i speak spanish much more natually than french.anyway, i'm not going nuts with this russian learning because i can see already how afraid i am of how difficult it is. but a little bit every day will do the trick. i really just want to be able to read russian. then i can read with a good dictionery like i read french writers like rimbaud, baudelaire, montaigne, sartre, camus etc.
I m very hungry now with your cooking…You read more french writers than me. I Hope I can help you in french sometimes as I'm frenchBonne journée. 😀
i LOVE your back drop/backsplash/painting/REALLY GREAT LOOKING DISH!!!! :chef: …… T HEE HEE.
P.S. THANKS FOR YOUR ADVICE RE: how to work this dang web sigh T, but i am the girl with an i.q. of perhaps 12. Therefore, i pay my brother the big bucks to SHOW ME. ha ha

good idea. I do the same kind of thing sometimes. American movies with en or fr subtitles…
Did you come to France ?I went to USA in 1987 in North Dakota and NY during one month.Bon souvenir 🙂
it's kind of hard to divide my attention that way but it's the closest to being in the country you are learning the language of. the hardest is watching a french movie with french subtitles. pure exercise. :up:je vous en remercie, monsieur. 😎

you are real cook!
kak dela katya, yes. definitely. i have been gone camping at big sur for the last week and i even cooked up a storm there.
it's ok! My practice over and i'm so happy but children asked me not to leave them!I adore them. The weather is getting worse and worse, but i enjoy it! My mood is good. Camping is wonderful, you are intrepid traveler!I was missing you!;)

Scott, now it's autumn time but we are trying to be optimistic, not fall into deep depression:up:
weather is no excuse for negativity. just my opinion. we are slaves to enough influences without succumbing to bad weather blues.
😎
Oh! i'm very surprised, you are learning Russian? Rumor that it is not too easy. Interesting is it really? 🙂
yes. the hard part is the letters being so different. hard to get used to.
