wake up you slugabed
and feast your eyes as
the fading stars retreat.
heed the clock that's ticking
as our glorious sun arrives.
now sit ye here and cast
a piercing inward stare
at worlds within illumined
by this precious mind.
now gently with a princely gesture
loosen the bonds to yesterday
and tomorrow.
the seer in his throne is crowned
and life's illusions and all sham dissolve.
the light of being outshines the sun.

FIREWORKS! ⭐ ⭐
I like the painting, Scott. How is it done? On a black canvas? This is a technique you should use more, I find. The poem 'has it', although I can't precisely understand: 'the bonds to yesterday and tomorrow' which you -some day- must explain me.Welldone and happy every day!
i'll leave you to explain your work, but 'loosen the bonds to yesterday and tomorrow' is completely exquisite, Scott. Bravo.
thanks dr. john. it's hard to explain. but simply it is the negative from the silkscreen application of 'stop out'. i liked the way it looked like a reverse sumi drawing. the brush stokes etc.the bonds? that is the slavery of the consciousness to monopolize the mind with considering the past too much. or the obsession with trying to second guess the future. i have found that most of what i imagine about tomorrow, never happens. so just the idea of de-emphasizing. it is much more practical to put my attention on now. that yields a more satifactory future and even can repair the past.thanks for commenting.
thanks moon, this is a welcome comment. the word exquisite always ruffles my feathers. 😆 thanks for the encouragement. 😎
It is really great, Scott, this piece of art. I would very much like to see more of you in the same style. I find it -and I mean it- very good and imaginative, creative! It has something surprising in it!Yes, I agree now you explained our obsession with pasts and futures. We can only marginally shape our own perspective on times to come. Great thought though.
I too love this painting Scott. Reminds me of when I would blacken the plate with ink in printmaking and begin to lift off the ink to make the picture in my head appear. As for tomorrow, I don't think about that much except for an occasional making of a 'to do' list. I mainly just get done what needs to be done for today. But I do tend to dwell in the past…..probably too much….and I'm working on that.

pam,i know the feeling. it's the feeling of taking away to make a vision, as in sculpture. sometimes wiping is just more exciting than brushing on. interesting.hi lea…@johnwell, if anyone had a clear aim, they might get somewhere. :lol:corolary: and then the past would become more useful.
There was a painter I was trying to remember for several days now that this painting reminded me of…..Eugene Carriere.
pam, this is just what i was talking about… removing to get an image.another example is angeliki's post on sand painting.http://my.opera.com/ellinidata/blog/2010/04/30/sand-art-from-ukraine?cid=26422981#comment26422981
His paintings really move me. I love this technique and have done it before and need to do it more. I bought a book of his work in Paris. One of the two I managed to find in English at a large bookstore there. The other was on Bonnard.
yeah, i like him too. bonnard for color though… wow.
I am not good in free hand's drawing. How would I be? 😀
if you try, you can. it just takes practice. 🙂
Really like it, Scott. Shades of Romeo and Juliet.
how so friend? *scratches head. :smile:not the picture… the poem?
deep, and thoughtful… just like the scott of old…
