i was commissioned to give art lessons to my friend's grandchildren. i pitched my tent and was a guest for three nights. what a lot of fun we had.
now this is a cube of the pencil portraits i did of the six youngsters.
we walked. we swam. we climbed trees.
in case the cube doesn't work, you can see it here.
well it didn't work… maybe this will.

Sounds like an awesome time! Did you take that photo that is up here? Amazing view!! Could you just post a few shots of those portraits?I can't see them.. ๐ฆ Anyhow take care!
no i didn't take the aerial view that's a google shot.i'm sorry you can't see them. i wonder what's wrong. for me the cube rolls around and each of the six sides has a portrait.i will edit it and paste the portraits in.
Nice portraits. I like the cube a lot ^_^
i'm glad it worked for you riko-kun
I love your cube, it works fine for me! Amazing portraits! My grandmother used to give my kids art lessons every summer at the cottage. We all really enjoyed it and I know they learned a lot from it. So nice you could do that for them.
Well…I reloaded the page just now and the bloody cube works! Thanks so much Scott for posting the pics for me. ๐
yw… so it finally worked? the cube?
Amazing portraits Scott!! :yes:I am on a dino of a puter..and on dial up ta boot! sooo..I did try to download it but after about 7 minutes I gave up…I didn't have the time… ๐
*nods* yes! ๐
the kids were so well behaved it was a real pleasure.around the fire every night we told stories and riddles and made smores…. marshmallows roasted in the fire, chocolate melted on the marshmallow then a sandwich of graham crackers was made. yummy. and fun.
wow! beautiful kids! ๐
If I were one of those kids – Iยดm sure I would have loved you for the portraits – and for the three days with fun and art.Maybe youยดve just given them something to carry on through their lives.
Those kids will keep those portraits forever. I have 3 that my grandmother did of me when I was about 2 or 3. They are such wonderful treasures.
beautiful portrait sketches….glad you had a good time. ๐
i'm not sure i am satisfied with teaching them anything about watercolor technique. we just worked together in our sketch journals for an hour or so between tree climbing, swimming and meals. but allan is right they were tickled pink about the portraits.it was an enriching experience for me.
good associating sarah.i was already an adult when "little house" appeared on television, but i used to watch it regularly with my children. wholesome.
For some reason….I thought of "mr.edwards" from Little House on the Prairie. Not the art part…but the playing. ๐
'it's been my bread and butter' for the last twelve years. my brother's mean prediction when i was a teenager was "you'll probably eventually be a portrait artist. and i was hurt because i was going to be 'hiernomus bosch' of the twentieth century. or at least a chagall or redon… fate is a merciless master.
Man, you do some heavy portraits
me gusta su trabajo amigosiga asi y/o mejor.saludos
muchas gracias amigo. saludos usted. was that right?
looks like you had a good time and enjoyed urself. the pictures of the children are great. sometimes i wish i could draw, it would make some things easier to explain…lol
to learn to draw we just draw… in time we can draw anything.
i don't mean to be mean… but try harder. it takes a lot of determination and a lot of practice. but i am a firm believer in diligence being the mother of skill, not talent.i think talent is a myth invented by people who gave up too soon.although passion for it may be hereditary.
believe me, i have tried
The Kaila one looks very much like my sister.. How strange..Wonderful sketches and what a great camping place!Regards, a boy missed you, Timm.
i know what you mean… but your avid interest is commendable. we are not always free to do as we wish.i suggest that you just mark all as 'read' and start again. it doesn't matter that much. we still have our friends list to browse and update ourselves.
Hmmm.. Maybe that explains why she looks so familiar. Asian people have some similarities and you caught them well in your sketch.I've been busy to no end.. The watched items number had long exceed 100 and is now marching towards 150.. O my god.. Regards, a boy loaded with works, Timm.
awww, thanks timm. i missed you too… where have you been?her grandfather was from the phillipines.
i always try, no matter how mad i get at something, i always try to do my best at it, even if no1 else likes it
Hmmm. Good idea. I may just save the page and mark all things as read..Regards, a boy wondering how to save pages on mobile phone, Timm.
if i had a mobile phone, i'd tell u, but sry i don't
Nice drawings. Learning to draw is a very hard process, but it helps me to relax and forget about my problems (for the time being).
hey, welcome memxe, good point. and i might add that it is very rewarding once you get past the " i can't do it" frustrations.that's just natural to be dissastisfied… the cry of impatience.but it can so take you that nothing can bother us when we work.thanks for commenting.timm… i don't know how you do it.kim… you know… i don't throw these around.
Great portraits and a great time you all had
thanks for the comment marcus. i only wish i could show some of the movie clips and photographs i took. but i have been asked not to.i have to respect people's privacy. i only could post these portraits because they are mine and i have only divulged first names… no harm done.i was so proud of this little movie i uploaded to grouper. i gleefully sent a link to it to my friend and she was afraid that predators and the newsmedia would be troublesome. i had to delete the movie i spent hours editing.now i know why i never want to be famous until i die. people have to be so careful.
we need to tell the media to keep their noses on their own faces and out of other ppl's business unles it absolutely without a doubt pertains to the news media.
They need something all right
It's sad when the few bad apples ruin it for everybody else :irked:
that's for sure… we need to enlighten those apples.
deaf ears kim… their livelihood depends on what they catch in their nets.i think my friend was more concerned with predators. that modern scourge of dark side practitioners. my oldest daughter put an injunction on my showing a picture of my grandaughter for fear of stimulating interest in the wrong places. so i haven't.but i have to say, i didn't teach my children to be afraid. the education system and the news media with their sensationalism did that.you're more likely to be on the bridge collapse in minnesota than get hit by a rampant deviant. bad things will happen to people. c'est la vie.we were all in danger the moment we were conceived.
thats 4 sure
Cool sketches.
wow Your sketches are really cool
thanks for the recognition matt. all the kids were so surprised to see themselves. everyone agreed that i got them all. it's about the hardest thing to do in drawing. you should try it. when you finally get someone it's very cool.not only that but you could be anywhere in the world and make a living doing it.
That cube is cool! Your photos of the meals make dinner an art form!
i have to stop that. even i am wondering why i choose to photograph my dinner. it's a kind of looseness having to do with my new found freedom.
